Child among 4 wounded in Ctg gunfight; 5 held

UNB, Chattogram:: Four people, including a 12-year-old boy, were injured in a reported gunfight between two groups of criminals in Bakalia area of the Chattogram city on Saturday night.

Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station said the clash stemmed from a long-running dispute between groups, led by Morshed Khan, and Abdus Sobhan and Shawkat, over the control of businesses in the Miah Khan Nagar Maidar Mill area.

The rival groups exchanged gunfire around 11:30pm, leaving four passersby injured.

Hossain Mohammad Kabir Bhuiyan, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said police arrested five people and recovered a shotgun and two bullets from the house of Faruk Hossain in connection with the incident.

Of the victims, Fahim, 12, son of Md Kalam of Maidar Mill area, suffered bullet injuries to one his knees and was undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Hospital sources said Fahim may require surgery, though he is out of danger.

The other victims were identified as Md Hasan, Jasim and Ismail Mia.
