The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League, has initiated to plant 5 lakh trees as a part of their mission to plant one crore trees nationwide, marking World Environment Day 2024, set for June 5.

The BCL leaders said it's a vigorous step towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals and combating the blistering heat wave sweeping the nation.

BCL has a desire to set a Guinness World Record by planting one crore trees. BCL leaders hope that, it's a green dream that's bound to leave a lasting legacy in the pages of history.

Sheikh Wali Asif Inan, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Chhatra League, disclosed the reporters about the mission on Wednesday. He reveals that the Chhatra League is all set to break records and make the mother-land proud.

"Our mission is clear," declares Asif Inan. "We're kicking off with plantinf 5 lakh trees this April, but that's just the beginning. Our smart activists will keep the momentum going, planting trees all the year-round. With dedication and sincerity, we will be able to reach our goal of planting 1 crore trees!"

He also said, the Chhatra League isn't leaving anything to chance. They've rolled out a detailed plan, complete with instructions for leaders and workers nationwide. From selecting the perfect planting spots to nurturing each sapling with care, every step is meticulously outlined.

Inan stated, it's not just about planting trees—it's about spreading awareness. From upazila units to educational institutions, everyone's getting in on the action. Students are being empowered to make a difference, one tree at a time.

And of course, no green initiative is complete without some social media sparkle! Photos and videos of the planting frenzy will light up screens, inspiring others to join the movement and make our planet a greener, healthier place to call home, Inan added.

On Saturday, April 20, BCL made a green pledge: to plant 5 lakh trees in just 10 days! In a circular jointly signed by BCL President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.,. From April 21 to 30, they urged all to roll up theirsleves and join in this ambitious tree-planting initiative.

"Trees are our green guardians, shielding us from the impacts of climate change. That's why, years after years, BCL leads the charge in tree plantation drives," the circular states.
