Unidentified criminals in Jhutitola-Shibatola area shot a leader of Chhatra League on Saturday night in Satkhira.

Azmir Hossain Farabi, 19, is the General Secretary of Chhatra League’s municipality unit. Syed Sadiqur Rahman, general secretary of the student front’s district unit, was also injured in the attack.

Farabi’s father Shadat Hossain said several Chhatra League activists, led by Sadiq, went to Jhutitola after learning that Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chahtra Shibir activists were planning subversive activities from a clandestine meeting.

The Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked the Chhatra League activists as soon as the latter reached the spot, Shahadat claimed, adding that Farabi was shot and Sadiq was hit by a brick chip.

Police rushed to the spot and took the injured to the Sadar Hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police Iltutmish said four people have already been arrested in this connection.
