Chattogram Chamber gets new board of directors for 2023-25 term

Omar Hajjaz, the former senior vice-president, has been elected unopposed as the president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) for the next two years.  He will take over as president on October 1.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the elected board of directors at the chamber office at the World Trade Center in Agrabad on Tuesday afternoon.

Election Board Chairman Md. Nurun Newaz, members Mohammad Ali Chowdhury and Wahid Alam and Election Appeal Board Chairman Sarwar Hasan Jamil were present in the meeting.  In that meeting, under the supervision of the election board, the presidium election was held from the newly elected board under the management of the newly elected director AKM Akhtar Hossain.

 Omar Hajjaz, elected as the new chamber president, will sit in the president's chair on October 1.  He will serve in the next fiscal year 2023-24 and 2024-25.  Before this, Khatunganj businessman Mahbubul Alam, the newly-elected president of FBCCI, has been serving as president for ten consecutive years.

 Newly elected President Omar Hajjaz is the of Blue Energy Limited, Director of Reliance Assets and Developments (BD) Limited, Managing Partner of Globe Shipyard and Director of Chittagong Abahani Limited.  Moreover, Tarfdar Ruhul Amin, proprietor of M/s Saif Powertec, was elected as Senior Vice President and Raisa Mahbub, proprietor of M/s Raisa Enterprises, was elected as Vice President. According to the schedule announced on June 15 for the election of the board of directors of the chamber, the time for the election of the board of directors of the chamber was scheduled on September 5.  

But the deadline for submission of nomination papers was last August 6 till 3 pm, 12 candidates against 12 posts in Ordinary category, 6 candidates against 6 posts in Associate category, 3 candidates against 3 posts in Town Association group and 3 candidates against 3 posts in Trade group filed nomination papers.  Which is accepted as valid by the Election Commission after verification.  

As a result, 24 directors were elected unopposed as the number of candidates against each post was equal.
