A Chattogram court on Tuesday framed charges against 40 leaders and activists of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party in a case filed on charges of sabotage and under the Special Powers act 1974.
Judge Nargis Akter of the Chattogram 5th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court framed the charges in the case filed in November 2018, said BNP’s lawyer Kamrul Islam.
Chattogram city unit BNP convener Shahadat Hussain, Chattogram south district BNP convener Abu Sufian, BNP leaders Aslam Uddin, Eskandar Mia, R U Chowdhury Shahin and Manjurul Alam Manju are, among the 40 accused in the case.
‘We appealed to court to discharge the 40 BNP leaders in the false and fabricated case. But the court framed charges against the BNP leaders and activists. We will file revision against the order with the High Court,’ the lawyer said.
Panchlaish police station’s then sub-inspector Ashraful Kabir filed a case accusing the BNP leaders and activists of sabotage and secret meetings against the government on November 2, 2018. েThe police submitted the charge sheet against the BNP leaders on October 31, 2020.
