Country's ceramic industry rolls around Tk 8500 crores of investment and experiencing 200 percent growth of production in the last 10 years, said sector insiders in a press conference on Saturday.
The press conference, held at the Dhaka Club, Shahbag in the capital,organised by BCMEA, ahead of the three-day international ceramic exposition, beginning from December 5.
Bangladesh Ceramic Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BCMEA) is organizing the fair titled “Ceramic Expo Bangladesh-2019” at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) for the second time in the country after 2017, aiming to give universal exposure to the country’s ceramic manufacturers. The expo also aims to create opportunity to munch a large share of global market with their world standard new products. President of BCMEA, Md. Sirajul Islam Molla attended the press conference along with other senior office bearers of the body.
In last ten years, Mollah said Bangladesh ceramic sector witnessed 200 percent growth in production and 20 percent in investment with earning of five crore US dollar foreign currency annually by exporting to 50 countries around the world.
Mentioning that the country’s ceramic industry contains Tk 8,500 crore investment with direct and indirect employments of five lakh human resources, BCMEA president said, “Bangladesh ceramic industry is a booming sector and growth potential of both domestic and international market indicates that it may become one of the biggest foreign exchange earners for the country,”
During the fair, he said manufacturers, exporters and suppliers will gain global exposure for their new product, modern technologies and reflecting the latest design, creating new image as well adding a great value to their brand all over the world from a single platform with provision of making spot order. More than 120 Participants with 150 brands of ceramic and allied products from 20 countries including host Bangladesh along with 300 international delegates and 500 buyer hosts are expected to join one of the largest ceramic exhibitions in Asia with title sponsor of AKIJ Ceramics.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will inaugurate the expo at ICCB on December 5 while Prime Minister’s Advisor for Private Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman to be present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony at Hotel Radisson Blu on December 7 in the capital.
This was revealed today at a press conference at Dhaka Club here where BCMEA president Md. Shirajul Islam Mollah and General Secretary Irfan Uddin spoke.
Irfan said demand of Bangladesh ceramic products is rising in the international arena while new markets have been created in different parts of the world. All major Bangladeshi ceramic companies have been expanding their plants and operations with the increasing demand of ceramic and allied products both at the domestic and international markets, he added. BCMEA Vice President Mamunur Rashid, Director Humayun Kabir, Abdul Hakim and Tanvir Ahmed were present at the press conference. Wem Bangladesh Limited is managing the event that will remain open from 10 AM to 7:00 PM every day to all visitors.
