The secretariat meeting of the central committee of the ruling Awami League (AL) will be held tomorrow (Saturday) to get prepared for the implementation of the directives of the party president Sheikh Hasina, who is also the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

The meeting of the most public-oriented political party has been called to discuss how to make the AL more popular through strengthening its organizational activities, party sources said.

Besides, the meeting has been called ahead of the field tours to be made by the central leaders across the country.

The central leaders are going on field visit to make preparations for the next National Parliament elections as per the directives of Sheikh Hasina, holding of councils of around 400 units, including 43 organizational units, resolving intra-party feuds, identifying the intruders into the party and selection of the dedicated, honest and sincere leaders.

Biplab Barua, Office Secretary of the AL, said the secretariat meeting will be held at 10.30am on Saturday at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also the Minister for Roads, Transport and Bridges, will preside over the meeting.

It may be recalled that the AL earlier on September 9 held its central committee meeting with AL president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

At the meeting, Sheikh Hasina gave   several directives to her party-men, including the preparations for the next parliament election, completion of councils of different units and resolving intra-party feuds.

According to AL sources, the dates of committees of around 400 AL units have already expired resulting into indifference among the party’s leaders and activists at the field or grassroots level. Intra-party feuds are also being brewed up for that reason, the source added.

Several secretaries of the AL said that the meeting will also discuss how to make the field tours a success.

They said selection of candidates for elections to various local bodies will be another important task for the central leaders, who will go on tours at the grassroots level.

Besides, it will be another important task for the touring leaders to make the party men and the mass of people alert against various propaganda and rumours against the party made through various social media.

It may be mentioned that earlier in the last December, AL had formed eight committees for eight divisions. But, those committees could not work properly due to Covid-19 pandemic. As the situation has started improving, the AL decided to resume its organizational activities.
