Ceiling of Rajshahi Press Club collapses

The ceiling and railings of the corridor of the ground floor of Rajshahi Press Club collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday  ( Oct-12). President of Rajshahi Press Club Saidur Rahman who was staying in another room of the club was saved miraculously. 

It is learnt, founded in 1954, Rajshahi Press Club is the second oldest Press Club in the country after the National Press Club. It is situated at the Zero Point of Shaheb Bazar.

The Press club building was built in 1945 and now it is managed by the Public Works Department, div-2, Rajshahi zone. No repair or renovation work of the Press club building was done for a long time. As a result, the building collapsed on Tuesday morning. 

RPC President Saidur Rahman was staying inside the building when it collapsed. 

He later came out and informed other journalists and the Fire Service and Civil Defence and the Police officials. They rushed to the spot and identified the building as 'Risky'.

RPC President Saidur Rahman informed, in the early morning the roof and the front part of the corridor suddenly collapsed with a cracking sound. He was saved because he was staying in another room of the press club. 

However, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir and Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil directed the authorities concerned to repair the building.
