Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has inaugurated a programme of planting one lakh trees.
The programme was inaugurated in Kalurghat-Chaktai four lane road construction project area on Saturday morning.
CDA Chairman Freedom Fighter Mohammad Yunus presided over the event. Globally renowned social scientist and Premier University Vice-chancellor Dr Anupam Sen was present at the programme as the chief guest.
Mohammad Yunus said he wanted to build a liveable city, where children could play and young and elderly people could take afternoon walks in the natural environment.
The CDA chairman said flowering, fruits and medicinal trees would be planted on both sides of the road to Kalurghat.
He also expressed his hope that everyone would cooperate in building a nice Chattogram.
Dr Anupam Sen said, “Our CDA chairman has thought about nature and, therefore, he has taken the initiative to plant one lakh trees in various parts of the city, including Kalurghat from the new bridge along the banks of the Karnaphuli river. Besides, he plans to build roads, parks and walkways along the river, which will make this a liveable natural city for our future generations.”
He urged the architects and urban planners, who were present at the programme, to make all their plans keeping nature and environment in their minds.
System Analyst Mohammad Mustafa Jamal, Board Member Jasim Uddin Shah, Architect Ashik Imran, Chief Engineer Kazi Hassan Bin Shams, Project Director Rajib Das, Caretaker Engineer Md Habibur Rahman and officers of the CDA were present at the programme.
