Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury sought Japan's cooperation in the development of Chattogram's water supply, sewage disposal, waste management and infrastructure sectors.

During a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Japan Iwama Kiminori at the CCC office in Tigerpass on Thursday, the mayor said that Bangladesh, which was scarred by the liberation war, has become a role model for development today, is possible due to Japan's continued cooperation.  Japan has been cooperating as a true friend of Bangladesh in the development of Bangladesh in every field, including the infrastructure sector.  Japan has won the hearts of the people of Bangladesh with its quality of work. priority to the four sectors of water supply, sewage disposal, waste management and infrastructure.  Japan can stand by Bangladesh by investing in the development of these four sectors.  I want to build a beautiful Chittagong by utilizing Japan's economic support and technical knowledge and experience."

Japanese Ambassador Iwama Kiminri said, Japanese commercial companies can improve Chattogram's drainage, waste management, infrastructure and sewage system by investing in the private-public partnership model alongside JICA.  I will inform the higher authorities to ensure the maximum cooperation of the Japanese government.  Japan will always cooperate to accelerate the pace of development of Bangladesh by exploiting the immense potential of the port city of Chattogram.

Stating that Japan is interested in expanding trade in Bangladesh, he said that there are many Japanese companies investing in Chittagong and Mirsharai EPZs.  Nippon Steel, one of Japan's largest corporations, has invested in Bangladesh and is keen to do more.  Chattogram can be a paradise for Japanese investment if administrative complications including customs are reduced in terms of port and road use.

Bangladesh has transitioned from LDC.  Therefore, Japanese investment in business diversification can lead to the development of heavy industry in Bangladesh.

Its mentioned that CCC has installed the country's first incinerator plant for the destruction of infectious medical waste in cooperation with Japan's development organization JICA, which is playing an important role in the development of Chattogram's health sector.  Five tonnes of medical waste is being incinerated daily in this plant.

CCC Secretary Khaled Mahmud, Mayor's Private Secretary and Chief Cleaning Officer Muhammad Abul Hashem, Japanese Embassy First Secretary Azumaya Kenji, Kawai Hiroshi, Japan Foreign Trade Organization JETRO Country Representative Yuji Ando Ananda, Public Relations and Protocol Officer Aziz Ahmad were present.
