Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has announced market monitoring to keep commodity prices stable during the month of Ramzan.
He said this at a discussion that was held on the initiative of the market monitoring committee at CCC on Wednesday to keep the price of daily necessities stable in the upcoming Ramadan.
Rezaul Karim Chowdhury believes that the traffic congestion on the roads will be reduced this year due to the evacuation operation.
The CCC Mayor asked for the cooperation of the traders to keep the commodity prices stable and said, “We have to face two problems in the month of Ramzan. Price rise and traffic congestion. It is not possible to stabilize commodity prices by law or punishment alone. For this, the cooperation of all related public and private service organizations including business brothers is necessary. Your cooperation is needed so that ordinary fasting people do not suffer due to the increase in the prices of goods during the month of fasting.”
CCC will work with other related public and private organizations to implement the government's instructions if someone tries to increase the price of goods by syndicate. We will monitor the market. If necessary, special operations will be conducted on the occasion of fasting. For this reason, I am warning the dishonest people to be prepared for legal action if they make people suffer by raising the prices of daily commodities.
The mayor said that the eviction of illegal structures will help in reducing the traffic congestion. However, due to the eviction operation we have conducted at Newmarket and Agrabad intersections, we think the traffic congestion will be less. We will continue the evacuation drive. I would like to tell those who are threatening to stop the eviction operation and trying to prevent it in various ways that the operation will not stop under any threat. If every police station monitors the recovered area, my plan to give free footpaths and roads to the people will become a reality.
In the meeting, various business organizations and institutions and market representatives of Chittagong presented their various complaints and suggestions. Businessmen said that many important areas of the city are free from illegal hawkers due to the initiative of the mayor and the real businessmen are benefiting. However, those at the helm of occupation continue to conspire and threaten and pressure the genuine businessmen in various ways.
CCC chief executive officer Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam said in the president's speech at the meeting, "Three of our magistrates will be in the field during the month of Ramadan. We will work with other government agencies to stabilize the market.
