Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has finally taken initiative to upgrade   Shah Amanat Airport Road, which is 8.39 km long and 60 feet wide, to 4 lanes. Proposals for development projects have been sent to the local government ministry.

According to CCC sources, if the seabed crossing from the city's Ruby Cement Factory to Butterfly Park is extended to four lanes, traffic congestion will decrease and child-friendly tourism will increase. In addition, construction of Slaughter House will enable pedestrians to cross the road safely by building foot over bridges at some important places for environmental development. According to a survey of CCC, IMED and various organizations, a proposal has been made for this project.

The length of the road in the proposed project - through cement crossing, from Ruby Cement Factory to Dry dock Ltd is  3.71 km,  and from Boat Club to Butterfly Park is 3.28 km. The CCC will make four lanes around 7 km. The Chattogram  Port Authorities  will make six lanes from Dry Dock Limited to the boat club (1.39 km) (including the under-construction container terminal. About 2 lakh 10 thousand 218 square feet of land will be needed for road expansion. In addition, for transfer of railways, 20,000 square feet  of  land will be needed. The total required land will be about 2 lakh 30 thousand 218 square feet or 320 katha.

It is learned that there are about 25 establishments in Chattogram port area at the airport road area. These companies include Ruby Cement Factory, Chittagong Port Authorities, BSC Grain Conveyor, Food Department of Chattogram, TSP Complex, Elias Brothers, Well Refinery, Abul Khair Group, Jamuna Oil Company, Meghna Petroleum, South East Tank Terminal, Standard Asiatic Oil Company, MJL Bangladesh, Dry Dock, Butterfly Park have to leave the place.

CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said the Shah Amanat Airport at Chattogram was very important. A negative idea is created when someone from outside gets into the city via the airport road. Two cars cannot travel along this road. With the establishment of economic zones in Chattogram , the capacity of the airport and the port of Chattogram will increase. In that plan, I have taken the initiative to upgrade the airport road to four lanes. Chattogram port import and export activities should be accelerated and the airport should be upgraded to four lanes for both the users and the common people of the area concerned.

"There are several establishments along the airport road," he said. They responded to our call. We have notified them of our plan. Earlier, I discussed this with the port chairman. He also agreed. Then I started thinking and working to implement the project. Representatives from 24 organizations agreed to accept the project, and no one disagreed. The damages of some old institutions will be huge.  The DPP of the project was prepared and sent to the concerned ministry.
