Chattogram City Corporation Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has asked to take steps to increase the security of internet dependent service sector and take precautions against hacking.
He made this comment during an exchange of views with the councilors at the CCC conference room at Tigerpass in the city on Monday.
CCC Mayor said that Prime Minister Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina has transformed Bangladesh into digital Bangladesh by investing heavily in the information and communication technology sector. Currently, people can easily access city corporation services at home through internet due to digitization of government services. However, active hackers around the world are disrupting such services in various ways. Recently we have come to know that hackers are trying to issue fake birth certificate in Chattogram by hacking the server of Registrar General's office of Bangladesh. Cyber security capacity of Chattogram City Corporation should be increased to deal with such cyber threats. We are organizing cyber security training for all online service providers including birth registration and also urging the ward councilors to be vigilant in this regard. CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam said that the victim of the hacking was the Chattogram City Corporation, but the hacking was mainly done on Dhaka's server. After coming to know about this matter, we filed a general diary and a case at the police station. If necessary, a separate committee will be formed at the local level with the councilors under the instructions of the honorable mayor. I assure you that after discussions with higher authorities, this issue will be resolved soon.
