Administrator of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Khorshed Alam Sujan said that the pride of Chittagong City Corporation Hospital in providing medical services needs to be restored.
He made the remarks to doctors, nurses and health officials during a surprise visit to City Corporation Maternity Hospital on Saturday morning.
He said, previously the maternity hospital of the city corporation had gained the confidence of the city dwellers in providing services to the mothers and children. People from far and wide went there to get services. The skills and capabilities of the hospital were well-established. Later, due to various reasons, it was not possible to maintain the reputation.
Sujan said, “Medical profession is a great profession. A doctor stands in the middle of life and death and restores life. So all doctors need to be more sincere. You just have to be more careful with the help you render toward other people. Patients do not come for medical treatment as the quality of service in the hospital is deteriorating. Due to irregularities and managerial errors, the desired goal of health care of the hospital has not been achieved. Failure to meet the goals, that are required to ensure access to health care, especially for marginalized people, creates an image crisis. In order to avoid falling into this crisis, everyone has to fulfill their responsibilities with full professionalism”.
He admits that experienced physicians and health workers are not interested to work here due to the lack of integrated employment rules and regulations for a long time. There must be a respectable salary structure for a doctor and a health worker and he hoped the ministry will issue a notification in this regard soon. Then there will be no obstacle in hiring skilled manpower in the city corporation hospital.
During the visit, the administrator talked to the patients who came to the hospital for treatment and wanted to know if there was any problem in getting the service. He also expressed his displeasure over the shortage of patients in the hospital and said, "I will continue this emergency operation. I will visit the hospital day or night. Action will be taken against those on duty for any irregularities, corruption or deprivation of patient services. Any complaints or suggestions will be taken into account by CCC”.
At this time, the administrator supervised the register of the hospital, attendance book, medicine and goods stores and instructed to submit the overall situation and accounts of the hospital. Administrator Khorshed Alam Sujan mentioned that he would take steps to open an eye and dental hospital corner in the maternity hospital.
Dr. Nasim Bhuiyan, Dr. Sushant, Dr. Ifat Jahan, Dr. Noman, Dr. Irene, Dr. Selina and others were present during the visit.
