The Election Commission (EC) said that the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections will not be held by August 5 due to lack of improvement in the Corona situation and landslides.

This was informed in a circular signed by EC Deputy Secretary Atiyar Rahman on Tuesday.

The circular states, "The Election Commission has decided that it will not be possible for the CCC to hold elections by August 5 due to the persistence of corona outbreaks, health regulations and risk of heavy rains, landslides."

The CCC election was scheduled to be held on March 29 in Chattogram But the EC postponed the elections due to corona. Amid the corona and flood situation Bogura-1 and Jashore-6 parliamentary elections were held on Tuesday.

Note that the last CCC election was held on April 28, 2015. The current CCC expires on August 5. Electoral law obliges elections within 180 days prior to 5 August. The EC had scheduled the CCC elections on February 16.
