CCC, CMP join hands to ensure road safety

Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and Chattogram Metropo­litan Police (CMP) on Tuesday signed an agreement to work together to ensure road safety in Chattogram city.  

The agreement was signed at the Tigerpass CCC office in presence of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy.  

CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Mohammad Tauhidul Islam and CMP Deputy Commissioner (Sadar) Abdul Warish signed the agreement on behalf of the two organizations.

Chattogram City Mayor Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said CCC and CMP are working together to ease the traffic congestion in the city.  We will further advance safe city planning.

CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy said exchange of information between CCC and CMP will make the traffic management more scientific and dynamic. It will also play a role in making the roads safer.

Bloomberg Philanthropy's Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) has worked with local government agencies to reduce road crash deaths and injuries in 28 cities around the world.  CCC and CMP will also work together to ensure safe roads in Chittagong with the technical support of BIGRS.

The agreement aims to establish a coordination mechanism between CMP and CCC, the two main agencies responsible for ensuring safe roads in Chattogram.  CMP is responsible for city road management, recording and investigation of road accidents. 

CCC is working on safe road infrastructure development and existing roads.

Through the agreement, both the organizations will share information and coordinate with each other to strengthen the road safety system in Chattogram city.  

The agreement will establish a mechanism for accident information sharing, management and analysis, road design and appropriate use of data.

CCC and CMP will analyse accident data, evidence and take an integrated approach to reduce accidents and casualties in the city.  They will analyse data and jointly publish annual road safety reports.  

The agencies will work together to identify road safety hotspots and roads in the city, where design changes, refinements are needed.  This agreement will develop a coordinated approach between CCC and CMP to address road safety issues.

Councilor Nazrul Islam Bahadur, Abul Hasnat Md Belal, Supervising Engineer Md Akbar Ali, Farhadul Alam, Jasim Uddin, senior CCC-CSP officials and BIGRS Chattogram officials were present at the signing ceremony.
