Trading of sacrificial animals on occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha started in all the makeshift markets in the capital on Wednesday which will continue till the day before Eid. A total of 2362 temporary cattle markets have been installed across the country among which 24 are in the capital Dhaka. Trading of these cattle will go on in full swing at these makeshift markets for four days from Thursday to Sunday, the day before the Eid festival.

Hundreds of cattle-laden trucks have started arriving in the capital, to other metropolitan cities and district towns from different regions of the country. Visiting the Aftab Nagar makeshift cattle market, this correspondent found that almost all of the traders have brought local cattle breed in the market. They also hoped to get the best price for their cattle.

Jolil, a farmer from Kushtia, has bought 15 local breed cows to Aftab Nagar. He expected that his cattle would be sold at a price in between Tk 1,50,000 to Tk 3,00,000. He told this reporter that as the market is about to get momentum, several buyers have asked him about the price of his cattle. However, on the first day he got Tk 100,000 rate from some customers upon which he is expecting a better profit this year.

Another cattle trader who have bought some 8 cows from Jhenaidah said, he has brought middle-sized cows as most of the buyers want such animals for sacrificing purpose. “I’m getting good response form the buyers and hope to sell all my sacrificial animals at a good price before the Eid day,” he said. Even though huge number of cattle are being brought to the cattle markets, the number of buyers were comparatively less now. The buyers are coming to markets mainly to get an idea about the price of the sacrificial animals.

Leasing authorities of the makeshift market said that they will remain alert about fake notes. Fake note detecting machines will be available in the markets to detect counterfeit currency at once. The leasing authorities further said there will be one police camp for each of the markets, while constant supervision and security will be ensured by the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) through CCTV surveillance. Veterinary Services at the cattle markets will also be available.
