Cattle-laden truck seized in Gazipur

Police seized a cattle-laden truck at Kaligonj upazila in Gazipur district, along with cows and buffaloes, within 40 minutes of being snatched.

The incident occurred at Baghun area under Moktarpur union in the upazila on Tuesday.

Kaligonj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Alauddin confirmed the details to local media on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police and victim sources, a group of cattle traders from Araihazar upazila, Narayanganj, were returning with 10 cows and 3 buffaloes purchased from various markets in Bhera upazila in Pabna district.

Around 2 AM on that night, as they reached the Baghun area on the Joydebpur-Itakhola regional road, a pickup truck intercepted their vehicle. The hijackers then boarded the cattle truck, assaulting and abducting the driver, his assistant, and the traders. They forced them into the pickup truck and fled the scene with the cattle truck.At that moment, Kaligonj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Milon Mia was on night patrol at Noapara Mor under Moktarpur union and heard about the incident from a pedestrian.

Later, he began a pursuit and called for assistance from locals via mobile phone. With the help of locals, vehicles were checked at the Charsindur Bridge area, while police also chased the truck from behind.

Realising the situation, the hijackers abandoned the cattle truck and escaped. A joint operation by Kaligonj and Kapasia Police Stations led to the recovery.

The six abductees were also rescued from the pickup truck, found with their hands and feet tied.
