Three persons have been charged with spreading a rumour that a woman has sold her hair to buy food for her children amid coronavirus crisis. A case was filed with Savar model police station against the three for allegedly spreading the rumor about the woman’s hair-cut and its sale in Savar on Thursday.
Rajim Vuiyan Mishu filed the case accusing three local people for allegedly creating a fabricated story and spreading a rumour that a woman named Sathi Akter, a housewife, sold her hair recently in order to buy food for her children.
AFM Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Savar model police station, confirmed the matter to The Bangladesh Post. The accused are: Razib Mahmud, 32, son of Md Tofajjol Hossain, Obaidur Rahman Ovi, 50, son of Md Hobi, also a local businessman and Omor Faruk, 40, a local journalist and publisher of a local weekly newspaper.
According to the case information, the accused were allegedly created a fabricated story and spread such a rumor that a woman named Sathi Akter, a housewife, sold her hair recently in order to buy food for her children. The plaintiff of the case claimed that the woman actually cut her hair for skin disease.
Earlier, several front line newspapers and media organizations published news that the woman cut her hair and sold it in order to buy food for her children amid this countrywide lockdown following coronavirus (COVID-19) spread on April 21. Later, the story drew attention of many, including the government officials.
