BSS, Habiganj:: A case was lodged against Sheikh Hasina and 55 others on Thursday, nearly 18 months after the incident, over allegations of
opening fire on protesters during the anti-discrimination student-public movement in Habiganj.

Mahmudul Hasan, son of Yakub Ali of Amirkhani village in Baniyachung upazila, filed the petition with the Habiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

The plaintiff identified himself as an activist of the Chhatra Dal.

Judge Abdul Mannan took the charges into cognizance following the filing and fixed March 9 as the date for passing a subsequent order regarding the next steps of the case.

According to the case statement, the incident occurred on July 24, 2024, near the Ashraf Jahan Complex in the city during the height of the anti-
discrimination movement.

The plaintiff alleged that under the direct orders of Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the accused opened fire
indiscriminately on students and the general public.

The statement further asserted that the attack resulted in bullet injuries to the plaintiff and several others.

A total of 56 individuals have been named as accused in the case.

Beyond Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the list includes several high-profile political figures and former lawmakers.

Notable among them are former Member of Parliament (MP) for Habiganj-3 Advocate Abu Zahir, former MP for Habiganj-2 Majid Khan, and former Minister Mahbub Ali alongside Barrister Sayedul Haque Suman, both of whom previously represented the Habiganj-4 constituency.

Habiganj Municipality Ataur Rahman Selim.
