Cargo loading, unloading disrupted at Mongla

Due to the monsoon winds in the Bay of Bengal, the sky has been overcast and it is raining intermittently for the last four days in the coastal areas including Mongla port. People could not get out of their houses due to continuous rain from late Monday night to Thursday. 

The loading and unloading of 13 domestic and foreign merchant ships stationed at the port is being disrupted. Meanwhile, the normal movement and life of ordinary people on the roads is being disrupted due to rains and hostile weather. The intermittent rains disrupted public life in the area. The low-income people of the port city of Mongla are suffering due to rains and hostile weather

A light pressure was created in the Bay of Bengal from the night of 14th June. The sun has not been seen in Mongla since last Monday to Thursday. Due to the variation of monsoon winds, it rains day and  night in torrents. The meteorological office predicts, it will continue for another 3/4 days.

According to Port Sutra and Harbor Master Commander Fakir Uddin, heavy rains have started in the port and surrounding areas due to the monsoon. There are 13 merchant ships in our port including 3 carriers. Also, a new commercial ship is coming to the port and 5 ships have left the port. Due to uncontrolled rains, unloading of goods from the port’s Poshur channel and all ships stationed at Harbaria is being severely hampered. 

According to port users, goods are awaiting to be unloaded from foreign merchant ships at Mongla seaport. Importers are unable to unload goods from ships due to hostile weather and heavy rains.
