Five private cars and various other valuable items were badly affected when a fire broke out in a car centre along with its adjacent multi-storey building in Kumarpara area in the city in the early hours of Friday.
Fire service sources said the fire, most probably, originated from a short circuit in the car centre around 4 am and spread to the multi-storey building instantly.
Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense, told BSS that a restaurant in the second floor of the building has been burnt by the fire.
He said their 12 units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of struggles.
Islam, however, said the extent of losses caused fire the fire could not be known immediately.
