The usual business of Dhaka has been witnessed on Sunday after the Eid vacation.

After the holy Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, work in all banks, government, non-government, insurance offices and courts, including the secretariat, started in full swing.

Earlier, banks and offices opened on Thursday, but attendance was thin. Many did not come to work due to the next two-day weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday. However, with the end of the weekly holiday, activities in government and non-government offices have become normal from Sunday.

Hundreds of thousands of people have returned to work. After celebrating Eid at home, a large number of people returned with their families on Saturday night.

Crowds of people returning from village homes were noticed at Gabtali, Mohakhali and Sayedabad bus terminals, Sadarghat launch terminal and Kamalapur railway station in the capital.

On Sunday, officials and students faced traffic jam while going to their work places, schools and colleges. However, many people are still on the way to Dhaka. Some of them could not reach due to huge congestions on different highways, ferry ghats and terminals.

The return of city dwellers was also noticed in intercity trains arriving at Kamalapur railway station on Saturday. Many spoke of returning to work without any sufferings. However, some reported about ticket crisis.

According to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), more than 100 launches had left Sadarghat on Friday and Saturday, which is higher than usual. On the other hand, the number of passengers in the launches that arrived at Sadarghat terminal from Barisal was much higher.

According to the calculation of public holiday, last April 28 (Thursday) was the last working day. The next two days -- Friday and Saturday were weekly holiday. Then the first Sunday in May was May Day. Then May 2 to May 4 was Eid holiday. One day later, the weekly holidays are again on Friday and Saturday. Only one day in the middle, 5th May (Thursday) was a working day.
