Candidates submit nominations for 2 Narail municipal polls

In the 3rd phase, the elections to Narail and Kalia municipalities will be held on January 30. Eight mayoral candidates, including four candidates from Awami League and BNP, have submitted nomination papers in the two municipalities. 

Awami League nominated candidate Anjuman Ara submitted her nomination papers on Wednesday. District Awami League president Advocate Subash Chandra Bose, general secretary and sadar upazila parishad chairman Nizam Uddin Khan Nilu were present at the time. 

BNP nominated candidate Md Zulfiqar Ali Mandal submitted his nomination papers to the returning officer and district election officer Md. Waliullah on Thursday (December 31) with party leaders and activists.  District BNP’s general secretary Md Monirul Islam and organizing secretary Shahriar George were present at the time. 

Sardar Alamgir Hossain, organizing secretary of the Poura Awami League and president of the district bus-minibus owners' association, submitted his nomination papers along with his supporters as an independent candidate. Maulana Md. Khairuzza­man has submitted nomination papers as the candidate of Islamic Andolon Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Awami League nominated candidate Md. Ohiduzzaman Hira and BNP nominated candidate SM Wahiduzzaman Milu have submitted their nomination papers as mayor post for Kalia municipality elections. Besides, current mayor Fakir Mushfiqur Rahman Liton and former mayor BM Imdadul Haque Tulu have submitted nomination papers in Kalia municipality as independent candidates for mayor post. 

In Narail Municipality, 11 women candidates have filed nomination papers for the post of reserved women councilors and 41 candidates submitted for general councilor posts. In Kalia municipality, 10 candidates have filed nomination papers for the post of reserved women councilors and 40 candidates submitted nomination papers for the post of general councilors. 

According to the district election office, polling will be held on January 30 in these two municipalities. On Thursday was the last day for submission of nomination papers. January 3 is the last day for selection of nomination papers, January 10 is the last day for withdrawal and January 11 is the allotment of symbols.
