Canal re-digging work to solve waterlogging in Ctg

Chairman of Chattogram Develop­ment Authority (CDA) M Zahirul Alam Dubash inspected the construction work of Maheshkhal regulator constructed in Maheshkhal under the project titled "Canal re-excavation, expansion, renovation and development for waterlogging of Chattogram city” in view of the upcoming monsoon season. During the visit, Project Director Lt. Col. Md. Shah Ali informed to the CDA Chairman about this project.

He said about the Maheshkhal regulator, the drawing-design vetted by the Water Development Board for the construction of the regulator on the Maheshkhal proposed to construct a boat pass/navigation lock at the regulator of 12 vents.  

In the said design, the regulator is incorporated into the design of sub-station, generator room and control tower for round-the-clock automation operations.  Moreover, the vent mouth will be fitted with state-of-the-art FRP gates, which are being imported from the Netherlands.  

Besides, as the construction site of Mahesh regulator is in the canal, diversion canal has been constructed to keep the water flow of the canal normal during the construction work and it is proposed to provide 18 meter long permanent sheet pile at 50 meter area adjacent to the two banks to protect the structure.

Later, the CDA Chairman visited Chashma Canal in Muradpur of the city.  Bangladesh Army's project director provided necessary guidance to prevent public suffering due to flooding during the monsoon season.

During the visit CDA Chairman along with Project Director of Bangladesh Army Lt. Col. Md. Shah Ali, Deputy Project Director of the project Kazi Kader Newaz, Assistant Engineer Deepak Barua were present.
