Canada can invest more in Bangladesh besides enhancing bilateral trade and commerce as well.
The current business and investment friendly policy where Canadian Government may consider invest and provide technical support in Bangladesh especially canola crushing, protein fortification industries and production of other value-added agricultural commodities from the Saskatchewan Province of Canada.
Commerce minister Tipu Munshi came up with such assertion while having a meeting with the Saskatchewan Provincial Government’s Minister of Trade and Export Development Jeremy Harrison and Minister of Agriculture Honourable David Marit respectively on Thursday.
During the meeting Jodi Bank, Deputy Minister of Saskatchewan Trade and Export Development, Stephen Visscher, CEO of Global Institute of Food Security were also present along with other senior officials of the both the Ministers.
He also mentioned that,“The friendly bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Canada has reached a new height and the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and attaches great importance to Bangladesh-Canada bilateral relation and considers Canada not only as an important development partner for her early raeconstruction and rehabilitation but also as a key driver for transforming sustainable technology, research collaboration, increased trade and investment, people to people contact for the betterment of the citizens of both the countries.”
During the meeting Commerce minister Tipu Munshi recalled that Canada was one of the first few countries that recognized Bangladesh immediately after the independence (14 February 1972).
Other than export-import, Commerce minister had also drawn attention to increase the number of Bangladeshi students and technical and scientific collaboration with Canada.
The Canadian counterpart Trade and Export Development Minister highly praised the current growth and economic development of Bangladesh and reassured to increase bilateral engagement in trade and commerce.
The meeting ended with fruitful discussionand the leaders from both the sides vowed to exchange high level business delegation in the next year for furthering bilateral engagement in trade and commerce.
Tipu Munshi led the Bangladesh delegation and other members of his team Additional Secretary (Export) Md Hafizur Rahman, PS to MinisterMd. Mohammad Mashooqur Rahman Sikder, Personal Officer to the minister Syeda Samira Samsiara Rahman and Bangladesh High Commission Counselor (Commerce) Shakil Mahamud were also present.
