The country’s consumer class is expanding rapidly and the import of Thai products is increasing in Bangladesh.
Fruits, vegetables, cosmetics, electronics, baby wear, fashionable footwear, spices, nuts, canned beverages and snacks are all being imported from Thailand.
Thai boutique hotels, restaurants, beauty parlors and salons are popping up in major cities like Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna as well as many district towns. Thailand is now a very popular alternate destination for traders and businessmen. They can source goods at a better price and quality with Thailand having a geographical advantage of being close to Bangladesh.
Many traders and businessmen do not rely on India and China. China cannot always supply quality food at an affordable price. Goods are smuggled into Bangladesh from India as the two share over 4000 kilometers of border. Whatever goods was being imported from China, Thailand can supply it as well at a better price and in shorter time.
