Due to instability in the political and social scenario, education in the country’s public universities is continuously being hampered. All year round, different politically motivated movements and activities take place in the campuses of universities. Often classes are cancelled in support of various movements and protests.

Undoubtedly, student politics itself is a highly important aspect in upholding the democracy of a country and keeping the authorities in check. It is a platform for the youth of the country to express their demands and concerns to the authorities.

However, student politicians should not abuse their power and position for their own personal gain or motivations. As representatives of the student body, it is their responsibility to convey the needs and complaints of the general students to the administration. If left unchecked or given limitless power, these students are bound to abuse their power and run amuck.

Campuses should not be

the place to hold any kind of

political or social demonstration

Political freedom is a right that is ensured by the constitution of our country. However, that freedom should be abused in order to further one’s one interests. It is the common student who ends up suffering amidst all the chaos created. Often, classes are cancelled indefinitely. Students cannot sit for exams even, and teachers are unable to complete the syllabus in time.

As a result, many students are passing courses without a thorough knowledge of their chosen subjects. This gap in education and knowledge might cause them to be at a disadvantage in their professional lives as well as in further education.

Campuses should not be the place to hold any kind of political or social demonstration. If students want to protest a matter, they can take to the streets. However, boycotting classes and holding the campus hostage must not be allowed to continue.

The government and university authorities must take strict action against those who try to hamper normal academic routine and activities. Guidelines must be instated for what is and what isn’t permissible on campus.
