Campaign amid peaceful and festive mood

Mayoral candidates of Awami Leage and BNP conducted their electioneering amid peaceful and festive environment on Monday.  Although candidates from both political blamed of obstructing each other’s election campaign, no mentionable violence or clash was reported on the day. 

Candidates went door to door to seek vote, distribute leaflets and made a number of pledges to the voters.  Atiqul’s election campaign  Awami League nominated mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam started his campaign form capital’s Khilgoan area. 

Then he visited Taltola Market, Abul Hotel, Rampura and Badda area.  During the campaign, Atiqul Islam said, “Awami League does not believe in words only. We fulfill the dream of the people. I want to work for the people. We want development and peace.” About the BNP’s allegation of obstructing election campaign, Atiqul said, “None of our supporters obstructed their electioneering. We believe in peace. So, we want a peaceful election and election campaign as well.” 

He further said, “I have the documents and video record that the supporters of BNP candidate did their campaign by playing song loudly in the loudspeaker.” Fazle Noor Taposh’s election campaign Awami League mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh started his election campaign through seeking vote form Saidabad area.

Then, he visited Maniknagar, Mugda, Manda and Basabo area.  During the campaign Taposh said, “If people elect me as a mayor, all basic facilities of citizens will be delivered to the doorstep of the people within 90 days. City Corporation will be corruption free. I am getting spontaneous response from people. I will make a beautiful, livable and traditional Dhaka for all.” 

He also said, “Only City Corporation will work for three years for infrastructure development, no other organizations will be allowed to work.” A good number of people, AL activists were present during his election campaign. Ishraq’s campaign

BNP nominated mayoral candidate Ishraq Hossain for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) started his election campaign after offering munajat at the grave of Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city. Then he launched his campaign from Tikatulai with several BNP leaders and activists. He went door to door and sought vote to the voters by distributing leaflets. Ishraq also visited different areas of Motijheel on the day. 

He said, “AL activists are hampering our election campaign at different areas. But we will not stop. We will stay in the election campaign till the last moment.” Tabith Awal’s election campaign BNP nominated mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal also started his campaign at 10:30am on Monday by offering munajat at the grave of Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital. 

Then Tabith visited Tejkunipara, Tejgoan, Farmgate and different wards of DNCC. He distributed leaflets among the people and sought vote. He also urged their leaders and activists to stick to campaign till the last moment of the election.
