Highlighting the importance of freeing the society from domestic violence speakers at a participatory discussion on Tuesday unequivocally called for a concerted effort of all government and non-government entities concerned to curb the violence.

Role of the grassroots level development organizations and mass-media is very important towards preventing gender-based violence.

The discussants came up with the observation while addressing a seminar related to prevention of domestic violence. Net to Rights and Thanapara Swallows Development Society (TSDS) jointly organized the community level seminar at TSDS office premises supported by The Sowalose in Denmark.

Chaired by TSDS Executive Director Raihan Ali, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Social Development Officer Rabiul Karim, Officer-in-Charge of Charghat Police Station Abdul Latif, Rulfao Director Afzal Hossain and TSDS Director Mahmuda Begum.

The speakers unanimously called for ensuring a gender-balanced and equity-based society through halting all sorts of repression and violence against women and children.

They viewed that building social awareness among the community people, especially parents and teachers, has become an urgent need for prevention of gender-based violence and substantial and sustainable reduction of violence against women and children. All of us should raise our voices and work together to address the social problem collectively as only the government or any other single organisation cannot bring any positive result in this regard.

The government alone or any single organisation is not capable of freeing the womenfolk from violence and repression, so community participation is very important in this regard.
