A local resort in Jhenaidah became a vibrant centre of discussion as political leaders, educationists, media professionals, business figures, and civil society representatives gathered for a development-focused exchange. The event, held at Johan Dream Valley Resort Centre on Friday, was jointly organised by the Jhenaidah Press Club and the Jhenaidah Journalists’ Forum in Dhaka.
Presided over by Press Club President Asif Iqbal Kazal, the meeting was facilitated by Forum leader Zahid Hossain Biplob and Vice-President Aminul Islam Liton. Participants shared insights on the district’s potential and challenges, with some reflecting on their intentions for the upcoming national elections.
In his inaugural address, Mehedi Hasan Palash, President of the Jhenaidah Journalists’ Forum in Dhaka, stated that Jhenaidah holds vast potential in agriculture, education, industry, culture, and tourism. He urged elected representatives to take strategic steps to realise this potential, stressing that everyone must work together—regardless of caste, creed or gender—to ensure holistic development.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, a BNP Central Executive Committee member, emphasised the need for corruption-free governance and administrative accountability. He criticised past initiatives disrupted by political interference and tender manipulation and pledged to scrutinise the backgrounds of government employees if elected as MP.
District BNP President Abdul Majid Advocate stated that his party is committed to good governance and human rights. He promised to reopen closed mills and factories to generate employment and economic activity.
Rashen Khan, General Secretary of Gono Adhikar Parishad, pledged to build a society free from tender manipulation and toll collection. He alleged widespread corruption following 5 August last year and vowed to demonstrate zero tolerance towards misconduct if elected.
Ali Zam Mohammad Abu Bakar, Ameer of Jhenaidah District Jamaat-e-Islami, also committed to working towards a corruption-free district alongside his party colleagues.
Moazzem Hossain, President of Jhenaidah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called for better preservation and marketing of agricultural products such as date molasses, betel leaf, and dairy items. He also stressed the need for incentives to promote local weaving and handicrafts.
Other notable speakers included Jhenaidah Forum President Mohabbat Hossain Tipu, NCP leader Hamid Parvez, and Forum member Shahnaz Parvin Poly, who highlighted the importance of social safety nets, women’s empowerment, and healthcare for a dignified and inclusive Jhenaidah.
