A discussion, quiz competition and rally was held with school students in Magura on the theme 'Wetland for Life'.
A voluntary organisation Center for Natural Resource Studies (CNRF) funded by the Swedish Embassy, celebrated this programme at Shalikha Secondary Girls School in Magura on Monday.
Shalikha Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Jasmine Akhtar Sabana presided over the event while Shalikha Upazila Agriculture Officer Alamgir Hossain, Shalikha Upazila Fisheries Officer, Sheikh Mohammad Saifuiddin Sumon and Abul Hossain Mondal, headmaster of the school were the special guests.
CNRF Field Officer Tauhid Hasan, Field Superviser Swaran Chauhan and inspector Kayshar Mehtaj spoke, cmong others. In the event, a quiz competition was held and prizes were distributed among the school students on wetlands, forests, nature and life of the country.
The speakers stressed the need for stopping the use of various harmful nets to increase local fish production, prevent rivers from salinity and pollution. They also made a fervent call to save the the wetland. CNRF is working jointly with the administration along with fishermen in that regard.
It was informed in the event that there were about 300 species of fish in the country.
Out of which 54 species of fish have become extinct. CNRF has been working for a long time to improve the livelihood and environment of the riverine fishermen.
