Former Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif stressed the need for planting of saplings of fruit bearing trees to increase food production alongside maintaining ecological balance. He called upon the people to plant sapling in their houses.
He said these at the inaugural ceremony of weeklong tree and fruit fair on Dak Bungalow building premises of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna on Tuesday.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ishwardi Ahammed Hossain Bhuiyan presided over the inaugural ceremony of the fair, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Abdul Latif delivered the welcome speech.
Chairman of Ishwardi Upazila Parishad Nurujjaman Biswash, Vice-Chairman Abdus Salam Khan, Woman Vice Chairman Atia Ferdousi Kakoli, Assistant Director of Pabna Social Welfare Office Abdul Kader, farmer Abdul Bari alias Kofi Bari, nursery farmer Ataur Rahman Mondol spoke at the meeting, among others.
Additional Agriculture Officer Rukshan Kamrunnahar conducted the event.
Earlier, a colorful rally was brought out from Duck Bungalow of the upazila.
