Administrator of Chittagong City Corporation Mohammad Khorshed Alam Sujan called upon the city planners and architects to explore the plan to build Chittagong as an attractive tourist city with its geographical beauty and abundant diversity.

Chittagong is surrounded by mountains, rivers and seas, such aesthetic elements are rare in the world.  ‘We have not been able to use these, but have destroyed these aesthetic elements.  We have occupied the rivers, cut the mountains and marred the beauty.  Only brick, stone development and urbanization do not mean greening and harmonizing with nature.’ said the Mayor, when prominent architect Ashiq Imran paid a courtesy call on him at the Nagar Bhaban in Tiger Pass on Sunday morning.

At the time, Sujan said, global warming and climate pollution were dangerous lightning signals.  Coordination and coexistence with nature, environment and all fauna are the prerequisites for our beautiful survival.  The master plan to build an eco-friendly city, protecting the geo-natural diversity and abundance of Chittagong beauty is a demand of time.  Since Chittagong is a port city, it has a lot of economic potential, most likely in the tourism sector.  If it is possible to utilize the elements available to make the city a tourist spot, the tourism sector will generate a source of income of several thousand crores of tk.

He also talked about setting up cottages and motels at various places of interest, including Marine Drive Road, tourist spots.  He added that bird feeding would be made from Faisal Lake to Bhatiari.

When he called for the preparation of designs for beautification of the city, the architect Ashiq Imran agreed with the statement of the administrator and said that they could fulfill the responsibility of formulating suitable designs for beautification wherever it could be done.  In addition, the construction of new playgrounds and the maintenance of existing ones should be given priority.

He further said that besides planting trees for greening, emphasis should also be laid on stopping deforestation.

Private Secretary to CCC Administrator Mohammad Abul Hashem, Urban Planner Architect AKM Rezaul Karim, Architect Abdullah Al Omar, Architect Nazmul Latif Sohail, and Architect Asaduzzaman Chowdhury were present.
