Cabinet purchase body approves 16 proposals

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) approved 16 proposals involving almost Tk 1700.58 crore including for procuring some 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG for around Tk 448.17 crore to meet the growing demand.

The approval came from the 23rd meeting of the CCGP this year held on Saturday virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said that the day's CCGP meeting approved a total of 16 proposals worth Tk almost 1700.58 crore. Purchase proposals included 6 from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, 4 from the Department of Road Transport and Highways, 2 from the Ministry of Water Resources, 1 from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, 1 from the Ministry of Shipping and 1 from the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, he added. 

Among the total amount of the proposals, Tk 1,551.88 crore will be spent from government funds and Tk53.62 from World Bank, he said.

One proposal at the cost of about Tk 95.07 crore was approved on the table .

Out of the approved proposals, Petrobangla would procure such a quantity of LNG where the unit price for per MMBtu LNG would total $13.42 from M/S Excelerate Energy LP, United States.

Shamsul said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) would procure 7 tugboats from Dockyard and Engineering Works operated by Bangladesh Navy under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) worth around Tk 97 crore.

The meeting approved a proposal for appointing the joint venture of Northwest Hydraulic Consultants Ltd. Canada, Inros Lackner SE, Germany, Haskoning DHV, Netherlands BV in association with CEGIS, Bangladesh, DDC Ltd, Bangladesh, SPMC Bangladesh and KMC Bangladesh at around Taka 46.30 crore as Consultants for conducting feasibility and framing detailed design under the "Coastal Embankment Improvement Project, Phase-1 (CEIP-1).

Prior to the CCGP meeting, the 19th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) was held on Saturday virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The meeting approved a proposal in principle to reduce the timeframe for submitting tender bids to 15 days from 42 days from the publication date of advertisements in the newspapers as the government would procure 2 lakh metric tons of wheat from Russia under DPM method, and another 3 lakh metric tonnes of wheat under open tendering method.
