The future of three projects of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) in Kurigram has become uncertain due to the stone crisis.

Relevant sources said that a total of 10.6 million CFT of stone is required in the three ongoing projects under the supervision of Kurigram Water Development Board. On the other hand, the suppliers are not able to supply half of the stone till now. As a result, the Kurigram Water Development Board is concerned about the future of the projects. There are three ongoing projects such as Chilmari and Ulipur upazila of Kurigram district Brahmaputra river erosion prevention project, from Ghughumari of Roumari upazila of Kurigram district to Phuluar Char Ghat and from Rajibpur upazila Sadar (Member Para) to Mohanganj Bazar, from the erosion of Brahmaputra River to Bamti conservation project and Left and right banks conservation and dredging projects including flood control of Dharla River under Kurigram Sadar, Rajarhat and Fulbari upazilas of Kurigram district.

Sources said that if the work of project three could not be completed in the current winter season due to lack of stone, then there is a huge danger of erosion in Dharla River and Brahmaputra River in the next flood season. Talking to Abdullah-al-Mamun, executive engineer of Kurigram Water Development Board, he openly admitted about the stone crisis and said, "Authorities are facing big trouble with the stone crisis. The matter has been brought to the notice of the higher officials and the board.”
