BWD evicts illegal structures from Mirpur Embankment

The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) on Monday conducted eviction drives for the second day. During the drive, various illegal structures were evicted from the land acquired for Flood Control Dam (Mirpur Embankment).

The drive was conducted in presence of the Executive Magistrate and with the cooperation of the district administration, police administration, Bangladesh Army and other stakeholders.

Witnesses said, illegal encroachments and structures were evicted from the chainage km 0.50 (Abdullahpur Fish Market) to km 8.50 (Panchabati) of the Flood Control Dam.

During the eviction drive, illegal structures such as NDE Readymix Plant, Tanvir Construction, Tama Construction, Sarmano Filling Station, Sharmin Group, Akij Readymix, Expert Car Wash, illegal structures adjacent to Uttara University and BGMEA University, Navana LPG Refueling Center, Abdullahpur Fish Market and other illegal shops and structures were removed.

About 170 acres of acquired land has also been freed from illegal occupiers. The eviction activities will resume as usual on Tuesday.
