BVF targets Asian U-20 Championship

Bangladesh will participate in the Asian Under-20 Volleyball Championship to take place in New Zealand in July.

Targeting to earn respectable results in the tournament, Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) arranged an exclusive training camp at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan (BKSP).

Under the Iranian coach Ali Pour Aroji and his deputy Imdadul Haque Milon the team is under a tight training schedule at the top sports Institute of the country, BKSP in Savar.

Organizes of the volleyball federation have stride to bring back the glory and popularity of country’s volleyball, once one of the popular games in Bangladesh. 

In this respect for last few years they have been hosting some international tournaments and also taking part in the different Asian top level events in abroad. 

Though they could not yet to earn any encouraging or notable success in senior stage, in the junior level (Under-20) competition they could accomplished a bit encouraging results in last year.

Organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), Bangladesh Under-20 national volleyball team obtained fifth position when they earned the feat outshining the strong sides like Australia and China in 2023. 

However, this time the BVF is aiming to improve their position with better performances, arranged the long term training camp when the players have already been in the camp for last two months and will continue before to leave for New Zealand.   

General Secretary of the BVF Ashiqur Rahman Miku, when talking to the Bangladesh Post on Friday said that this time their target is to do something admirable in New Zealand 

“In the previous edition (2023), boys did very well, as they trounced the Asian top ranked sides Australia and China to clinch fifth position out of 17 teams. That was very much inspirational.”

“So, this time our expectations are higher and to make it success, we organised the long term training program for the boys,” Miku revealed. 

Replying to a query Miku said, “Boys are in tight training schedule under the head coach Ali Pour Aroji of Iran boys are in very tight schedules. They have at least five to six sessions in a day. The coach is very much strict about the disciplines of the boys.

Miku said, “In fact we are looking forward to earn the qualification at least to avail the ‘Wild Card’ for the next Asian games.”

“We are going to organize the Independence Cup Volleyball tournament where all the national team’s players will play for different teams. For the proper match practice, we include the Under-20 team in the tournament, as they would have the experiences of facing tough opponents,” Miku explained.  

Meanwhile, 25 players are in the training camp at BKSP, from them 14 players would be selected for the competition in New Zealand.
