Bakery businessman Zahurul Islam of Bogura has fallen victim to a murder allegedly planned by his wife, Shamima Akter, and her illicit lover, her cousin Bipul, police report.
The gruesome discovery was made on the morning of 4 November, when Zahurul’s body was recovered from a paddy field in Hajradighi Talukdar Para, Nunghola Union.
Shamima Akter (30), daughter of Shaheenur Rahman Talukdar of Nunghola Union, and Bipul (37), son of Abdul Hamid from the same union’s Antahar village, were arrested following investigations.
According to Mostafa Manjur, Additional Superintendent of Police of Bogura Sadar Circle, Zahurul and Bipul were cousins, and Shamima and Bipul had long harbored feelings for each other. Their illicit relationship continued even after Shamima married Zahurul.
On the night of 3 October, Shamima and Bipul allegedly plotted Zahurul’s murder. Shamima reportedly mixed 15 sleeping pills into Zahurul’s milk, rendering him unconscious. Bipul then allegedly took him outside, and together they brought him to a nearby half-constructed house, where he was fatally struck on the head. His body was later found the next morning in the field near their home.
Following the incident, Zahurul’s maternal uncle and Shamima’s father filed a murder case at Bogura Sadar Police Station. The arrested individuals have been sent to jail through court, and initial investigations indicate their involvement in the crime.
