Industry owners and businessmen have demanded uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas to factories for the protection and development of local industries.
They made the call in a meeting of the Standing Committee of FBCCI on protection and development of local industries, held on Monday at FBCCI conference room, Matijheel in the capital.
Businessmen also drew the attention of the concerned authorities to obtain bank loans at low interest rates.
They said that the production of the industry is being hampered badly due to the lack of uninterrupted energy supply. As a result, the businessmen of this sector are facing various problems. Production costs are rising and ultimately the prices of the product is increasing. Many industries are about to close down. Businessmen also commented that the local industrialists are getting discouraged.
FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam participated in the meeting virtually as the chief guest .
He said, ‘we have to work seriously on the protection of local industry to build a developed Bangladesh. In this year's budget, some policies have been taken in this regard. FBCCI is also working on this.’
He called for more cooperation from the banks to protect the local industry. Besides, he emphasised on developing skilled manpower in these industries.
Md. Amin Helali, Senior Vice President of FBCCI said, ‘in the past almost all the things used by Bangladeshi people, including high-quality clothes, were imported. Now almost all of them are produced in our country.’
He also commented that FBCCI is working with the government to provide policy support for the development of local industries.
Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan Liton, Chairman of the committee and MD of Madhavadi Dyeing Finishing Mills Ltd. presided over the meeting.
He demanded to the new investors to come forward to increase the supply of electricity and gas to the local industries.
