Business eats up Sylhet footpaths

Amid the continuous drive to evict hawkers from the footpaths in Sylhet city, the scenario starts to change after the evening as they come to the streets and footpaths to catch the customers.

Causing the immense suffering to the city dwellers’ movement, this illegal business run throughout the city with the help of some corrupt local influential for long after the evening.

However, present situation proved that the authorities of Sylhet City Corporation lost their capacity to keep the city’s street or pavement free from hawker, alleged many city dwellers.

It was also alleged that the city authorities carry out their eviction drive as an eyewash.

The footpaths of Bandar Bazaar, Surma Market point to Chauhatta, Shubhanighat, Amabarkhana Point, Shibganj and Rikabibazaar areas are totally occupied by hawkers just after evening as they established shoe, cloths, vegetables and fruit shops on the footpaths. 

A city dweller said that most of the footpaths in Sylhet city were almost unusable to the dwellers after evening.

Meanwhile, the city authorities are now seeking public help to keep the city street and roadway free from hawker.

Nur Aziz, chief engineer of Sylhet City Corporation, said that they are trying to keep the city’s streets and pavements free from hawker. Besides the city authority as well as peoples should come forward to keep the city neat and clean.
