Price hike of diesel has raised mixed reactions and fear among the people that bus fare can go up again.
Following the bus owners association’s letter to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), it has been decided that all parties are going to sit in a meeting next Sunday at 11 am. From that meeting it will be decided whether the bus fare will increase or not, BRTA sources said.
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association secretary general Khandaker Enayet Ullah has said, “Most owners are reluctant to run buses because of the increase in diesel prices. We have written to BRTA to increase bus fares.”
Regarding the increase in bus fares, BRTA chairman Nur Mohammad Majumder said, “The bus owners have sent a letter to increase bus fares. A meeting has been called next Sunday with all concerned. The next decision will come from that meeting.”
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity Secretary General Mozammel Haque told Bangladesh Post, “Fares have already been increased on various bus routes in Dhaka. This is completely arbitrary. Increase in diesel prices will have an negative impact on everything. The decision to increase in the price of diesel needs to be withdrawn quickly. Otherwise, the bus owners will cut the pockets of the passengers several times more.”
Meanwhile, vessels owners have not yet decided whether the launch fare will increase or not. A meeting is likely to be held today (Friday) in this regard from where the next decision will be taken.
