Some long-route buses left Dhaka on Tuesday for different destinations of the country under the protection of the Army and the Police amid the ongoing curfew.

The buses had started their journeys in the afternoon from Gabtali bus terminal, Sayedabad bus terminal and Mahakhali bus terminal, confirmed Samdani Khandaker, office secretary of Bangladesh Road Transports Owners’ Association. The bus services were halted for more than a week due to the violence and curfew across the country.

Meanwhile, a few numbers of public buses ran in different routes in Dhaka city on Tuesday. Rajdhani Paribahan operated from Demra to Mirpur, Anabil Paribahan ran in Jatrabari-Rampura-Gazipur route, and 6 No Paribahan in Tejgaon-Kamalpur route. Several buses of some other transport companies also resumed their activities in some other routes of the city.

Shamim Hossen, an employee of Narail Paribahan in Sayedabad bus terminal, said, “Our two buses left Dhaka today. A few buses of some other transport companies have also started their operations.”

Mashiur Rahman Ranga, president of the Road Transport Owners Association, said that the situation for resuming bus services was improving.

“A few numbers of buses are running today. However, we do not have proper information about the condition and safety of the roads. Many bus owners have called me over phone regarding this safety issue. If one sits idle at home, there will be no earning. They are in trouble too. But we cannot assure them without being confirmed about the safety issue of the roads,” explained Ranga.

However, 71 buses left Cox’s Bazar for Dhaka on Tuesday with 11,000 stranded tourists, said our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
