A policeman of Gogai Highway police station was killed in a road accident at Kaliakair in Gazipur. The OC and two other policemen were injured. The road accident took place in Bordghar area of Kaliakair upazila on Dhaka-Tangail highway while patrolling around 2 o'clock in the middle of the night today (August 7th) at the end of Saturday. The deceased policeman is Monir Hossain (25), son of Shahjahan Mia of Kandapara village of Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district. The injured are highway police station (OC) Molla Tutul and policeman (driver) Altaf Hossain (26).
According to local residents and police sources, policemen including the OC of the highway police station were on patrol in the Boardghar area of the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kaliakoi, Gazipur. Suddenly, an unidentified bus heading towards Dhaka rammed the police jeep. The jeep overturned. Later, policeman Monir Hossain died on the spot. Two other policemen including the OC of Gogai Highway police station were injured in this accident. Later the locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
In this regard, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Gogai Highway Police Station Molla Tutul said, after the first treatment at Kumudini Hospital, I and my driver are at home.
The body of deceased Monir will be handed over to his family after the legal process. However, it was not possible to arrest the killer bus in this incident.
