Burned body parts recovered

Multiple body parts were recovered from the Benapole Express train which was set on fire by miscreants on Friday night.

Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Director of Fire Service (Operation and Maintenance), came up with the disclosure on Saturday.

The recovered body parts include burnt skull, arms, legs and other body parts which were in very bad condition, he said. 

It is difficult to ascertain their identity as the recovered body parts are in bad condition. The number of casualties may increase, said the fire service official. 

According to railway police sources, four families have so far submitted applications to trace their missing relatives in the Benapole Express train fire at Gopibagh. Many other people are also coming up with claims. 

Experts will conduct DNA profiling to confirm the identities of the burn victims, said police. 

Ferdousur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway police, said that two persons had lodged general diaries with police so far, asking for information on missing persons. One of them is a man, another is a woman.

Besides, the eight people who received burn injuries in the train fire were undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in critical condition, according to Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of the institute.

Families who could not find their missing relatives on the injured list have been frantically searching for their loved ones from one hospital to another.
