Bumper yield of paddy in Chalan Beel

Farmers in all the fields of Gurudaspur upazila are now busy and dreaming colorful as bumper yield of paddy has been achieved this year. The golden color has spread in the paddy fields. Paddy harvesting has started in full swing in all the fields of Chalan Beel. Farmers in the region are busy in harvesting paddy and threshing it in the houses.

Ramzan Ali, a farmer of Ruhai village of the upazila, said that the yield of paddy has been better this year than last year. There have been no hailstorms and big storms so far, and if there are no hailstorms and big storms in just a few days, he will be able to harvest all the golden crops in his house. He added that he has received a lot of supervision from the agriculture office this year. Authorities concerned properly researched the situation and advised him and gave him directives. Yield has been better than other years.

According to the Agriculture Office, the planting of Boro paddy has decreased this year as compared to last year. In Gurudaspur upazila, the area under Boro cultivation was 6,300 hectares last year, but this year it has decreased to 5,500 hectares.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohammad Harun Rashid said that Gurudaspur Upazila Food Surplus Upazila has been recognized as a food surplus upazila for a long time. Boro paddy has been cultivated in 100% of the cultivable lands of Ruhai, Bilsa Dikdaria, Tengsagari, Handibhanga and Chakal Beel as low lying areas of the upazila.
