A bumper production of wheat is expected in Panchagarh district during the current season.
According to sources of the Department of Agriculture, the target of cultivation of wheat was fixed on 20,300 hectares of land in Panchagarh during the current season but the cultivation of the crop was on 19,350 hectares of land. The farmers will start the reap the wheat within next one or two week.
In five upazilas of Panchagarh, BARI-30 and BARI-33 varieties of Wheat were cultivated. Moreover, there was also a satisfactory prodcution of wheat-1, 2, and 3 varieties invented by Wheat Reaseach Institute in the district.
Farmers of the district informed, there was a bumper production of BARI-33 variety of Wheat in the district. They are expecting to harvest 40 to 45 maunds of Wheat from one hectre of land.
Farmer Abdul Latif of village Magura under Tentulia upazila informed he has cultivated he has cultivated wheat on one acre of land. The production of wheat is very inspiring and the sheaff of wheat are turning golden. He hoped to harvest the wheat within next two weeks.
He further said it costs Taka 25,000 to 30,000 to cultivate wheat in one acre of land.
There is no menace of insects and pests in wheat plants though there are menaces of rats.
At present a maund of wheat is being sold at Taka 1,300 to 1,500. He hoped to earn Taka 20,000 by selling wheat produced in an acre of land.
Training Officer of DAE Panchgarh district Naimul Huda Sarker informed, the weather this year was favourable for Wheat cultivation and there was no menace of insects in the field.
He hoped, the harvesting of wheat would start within next two weeks.
