Bumper sunflower harvest likely in B’baria

Farmers are hoping to make a profit by cultivating sunflower in Nabinagar of Brahmanbaria. They said that sunflower cultivation has been done on 16 hectares of land in the Upazila this year. Upazila Agriculture Office has provided incentives to 120 farmers for cultivation of this crop along with fertilizers and seeds. Already seeded sunflower plants are starting to mature. Officials of the agriculture department said that such a picture was seen in 21 unions of the upazila.

By visiting the sunflower fields in Nabinagar upazila, it can be seen that sunflower has been extensively cultivated in every union. A charming scene has been created in the upazila for the yellow flowers. Many people are gathering from nearby areas to see the beauty of sunflowers.

  Ibrahimpur farmer Helal Uddin said - I have cultivated sunflowers this year by getting free seeds and fertilizers from the upazila agriculture office. Upazila Agriculture Officer Jahangir Alam Liton advises and with the help of sub-assistant agriculture officers at the field level, we cultivate sunflowers. If there is no natural disaster, I hope there will be good income.

  Jafarpur farmer Nasir Uddin said - sunflower cultivation does not require hard work and much cost, the yield is good, it is a profitable crop. I am cultivating this crop this year with the help of Upazila Agriculture Office. It is a profitable crop, cost is low, besides sunflower seed oil is very beneficial for health, its tree can be used as fuel and he mentioned.

Nabinagar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Habibur Rahman said - Sunflower oil is a little different from other common oils. Being cholesterol-free and rich in vitality, sunflower oil improves our body's resilience and performance. This oil is ten times more nutritious than soybean oil for cooking, so farmers are encouraged to grow sunflowers day by day.

Numerous visitors are constantly flocking to the upazila to see the sunflower fields. If the weather is favorable, there will be a bumper crop of sunflowers in Nabinagar, said officials of the Directorate of Agriculture.
