Farmers have achieved huge production of onion in four upazilas of Chuadanga district this season. According to Agriculture Extension Department, 9041.75 metric tons of onion has been produced. Of the total, about 1106.25 metric tons has been produced in sadar upazila, 1770 metric tons in Alamdanga, 4026.75 metric tons in Damurhuda and 2138.75 metric tons in Jibannagar upazila.
It may be mentioned here that 613 hectares of land was taken under onion cultivation in four upazilas of the district. Of the total75 hectares of land was brought under onion cultivation in sadar upazila, 120 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila, 273 hectares of land in Damurhuda upazila and 145 hectares of land in Jibannagar upazila.
Lutfor Rahman, a farmer of village Garabaria in sadar upazila of Chuadanga district told the Bangladesh Post he produced 50 mounds of onion by cultivating 2 bighas of land. Mohammad Ali Hasan, Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension Department said onion was produced because of favourable climate and weather in the areas.
