Bumper mustard harvest cheers Cumilla farmers

Yellow mustard flowers are swaying in the green fields on the horizon in Cumilla district’s Titas Upazila. It is as if the nature has been decorated in an aesthetic form with the wonderful beauty of the yellow design. The fields of the Upazila are full of flowers. A farmer's colorful dream sways in every yellow-tinged mustard flower. Such a scene can be seen in Kodalia Chowk of Jagatpur Union of Upazila.

Talked with Shahid Mia, a mustard farmer of Jagatpur village. Shahid Mia said that he cultivated mustard on 4 bigha land. Mustard cultivation requires less cost and labor. No cost except seeds and fertilizers.

Another farmer, Hossain Mia, said that mustard fields do not require much care. There is no need to plow it. It also costs less to cultivate mustard. Due to the large number of mustard plants, many crops are available. After mustard cultivation, paddy can be cultivated on the same land. After mustard cultivation three crops can be cultivated in one field.

Upazila Agriculture Officer Salah Uddin said that mustard has been cultivated in 427 hectares of land in the Upazila this season. Last year mustard was grown on 238 hectares of land. This year, 900 farmers of the Upazila have been given 10 kg of MOP, 10 kg of DAP and 1 kg of mustard seeds under agricultural incentives. which contributed to the growth of crops.
